![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But, in true Bardugo fashion, it may only be “goodbye for now. Rule of Wolves was written during the lockdown in 2020, and it’s definitely written like an end to the Grishaverse. We have some character crossover, but each character’s story and arc is its own masterpiece. I love how Bardugo weaves moments from the Shadow and Bone series and Six of Crows into this duology. Likes: These two books are my favorites of the Grishaverse so far. When an enemy rises, Nikolai and Zoya find themselves staving off a physical border war and a war within each of them between good and evil. See the Grishaverse come to life on screen with the Netflix series, Shadow and Bone. Meanwhile, Nikolai, Zoya, and a radicalized monk who desires Sainthood for the Darkling must work together to keep Ravka from entering an unnecessary war with Fjerda, Shu-Han, and Kerch. Rule of Wolves continues Nina’s story in Fjerda and her attempts to infiltrate the highest ranks of the Fjerdan monarchy to spy for her Ravkan king and protect Grisha. In her efforts, Nina discovers jurda parem is still being trafficked and used as a weapon against Grisha. While Nikolai and Zoya handle Ravka, Nina Zenik, is in Fjerda working to help Grisha escape the persecution of Fjerdan witch-hunters. With his Grisha General, Zoya, Nikolai manages the politics, perceptions, and people with easy grace while he’s simultaneously filled with inner turmoil. Story Synopsis: In King of Scars, we follow the story of Nikolai Lantsov, the Ravkan King who is barely keeping his country afloat following the events of Ruin and Rising. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The duality of emotion that Elizabeth Lim is able to interlace in her plot lines is what makes her writing so captivating. It had moments of hope and moments of utter despair. ![]() ![]() All I can say is that this book was both heartwarming and heart wrenching. Clearly, a lot is at stake and time is ticking for our weaver of magic.Īs I don’t review sequels all that often, I’m not sure what is/isn’t considered a spoiler. If you’ve read the first book, you know that Unravel the Dusk is essentially one big race against the clock for multiple boding outcomes: Maia’s fate, as she slowly but surely turns into a demon bound to Bandur and the Forgotten Isles, and the fate of the empire that rests upon the marriage of Lady Sarnai and Emperor Khanujin, finally bringing peace after the 5 years winter war that claimed both of Maia’s brothers. Luckily, Elizabeth Lim does an excellent job of catching her readers up to speed in the first few chapters, and surely enough, it all came flooding back to me. Not going to lie, I was nervous going into Unravel the Dusk because I thought I’d forgotten everything that happened. Spin the Dawn was released in July of 2019, so it’s been almost a year and a half since I read book one. Although my reading is off to a very slow start for 2021, I do not regret taking my time to carefully enjoy the finale of this beautiful duology. ![]() ![]() ![]() I first read this series five years ago and it has remains to be one of my favorites today. When my brother Chuks and best friend Ike, both co-organizers of the TED圎uston conference, insisted that I speak, I could not say no. It seems to me that the word feminist, and the idea of feminism itself, is also limited by stereotypes. I had spoken at a different TED conference a few years before, giving a talk titled ‘The Danger of the Single Story’ about how stereotypes limit and shape our thinking, especially about Africa. Speakers from diverse fields deliver concise talks aimed at challenging and inspiring Africans and friends of Africa.
